C&O Links

This site is a repository for latitude and longitude coordinates for points of interest along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park.

The C&O Canal is now a recreational wonderland spanning 184.5 miles between Cumberland, Maryland and Washington, DC. A biking/walking trail spans the entire distance and it is this web site's goal to document GPS coordinates of historic, geologic, and architectural points of interest along the entire trail.

To view the list of user entered coordinates, click on the "Coordinates" link on the left sidebar.

Update (07/11/2006): All of the GPS coordinates have been saved into a GPX file that you should be able to upload directly to your GPS. Download GPX File. (Right-Click, Save As...)

Update (07/05/2007): I finally made it out on the trail again. It's been over a year (too long!). I rode the Hancock section of the trail, from MM 122 to MM 133. I recorded GPS coordinates for 3 campgrounds along the way, as well as the Tonoloway Aqueduct. I also rode about 7 miles on the WMRT, which was a good break from the towpath surface. I've been thinking about ways to geotag photos and post them to this site and have a couple of ideas on how to accomplish this. In the meantime, I've uploaded today's photos to Panoramio, so check them out.

Update (09/18/2006): Due to the incredible large number of SPAM postings this site is getting and the fact that I have nearly all coordinates of spots along the way, I have decided to lock the database table. If you do have coordinate(s) you would like to include, please email me. A special thanks go out to all who contributed!

Update (06/13/2006): I've added a user submitted map along with elevation profiles.

Update (08/15/2005): I've added a map that uses Google Maps to show all of the recorded waypoints.
