Arms Buildup

| | Comments (0)

We sold the Neon for $1,325, which I'm very happy about. Looks like we will be able to afford Christmas this year :)

I'm currently listening to Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything, which I downloaded from Audible.com (Yes, Colleen I do still have the subscription to it and I don't plan on ending it anytime soon, so please call me at work and yell at me). The book is good, but it is definately one that is better listened to than read. It is going to take about 15 CDs to burn the complete edition. I'm up to about the fifth disk now and have just gotten into the atomic theory.

I think I know how Kennedy felt during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We are experiencing our own "arms" buildup with Ryker. Since the vet told us there was nothing we could do about his Cushings diesease (which, to make a long story short, makes him want to pee a lot), we have been putting him outside during the day when we aren't home, and locking him into the kitchen at night. We modified his schedule so that he doesn't get any water after 7:00. This has worked fairly well over the past two months. However, over the past two weeks, he has decided to revolt in the following manners:

  • Knocking over the garbage cans outside and chowing down.
  • Taking various large dishes out of the sink and licking them clean in hopes to get any stray food particles or water.
  • And as of last night, he has figured out how to knock over the gate that was keeping him in the kitchen
  • Each of these actions has resulted in a counter action by the Shanafelt camp:

  • Colleen caught him in the garbage both times and stopped it before it got too far. The garbage cans have been placed outside the fence now, preventing him access to them.
  • The sink is throughly emptied each night before we lock him in the kitchen
  • As for the gate, we aren't quite sure what we are going to do about that.
  • However, it does appear that the other dog, Kira has joined our forces. When Ryker tried to knock down the gate the second time last night, Kira ran down and began barking at him. This could be the beginning of a powerful alliance.

    Advice for Dish Network Users

    |

A while back, We bought a satellite dish system from the Dish Network. Overall, we have been very happy with the system, we love the DVR feature and have had some pretty rough weather lately and have yet to have a problem.

However, when we had the system installed, we only have one TV, so they installed just one receiver. The deal that we had signed up for included up to three receivers. Since then, I've learned about SnapStream, which basically turns your PC into a TiVo for less than $75, given that you have a TV Tuner card. I found this very interesting, and would like to at least give it a try. Therefore, I called up Dish Network to see if I could get the second receiver that I didn't get during the initial install. I was politely told that this was not possible for free, and that a receiver cost $99. After some complaining, I got the price down to $40 with free shipping and handling. I reluctantly agreed.

Therefore, if you are considering getting a dish installed, make sure you get all receivers put in at the time of install, or they are going to charge you for it.

    Liquidation

The Shanafelt's are cleaning our closets!! First up is a 1998 Dodge Neon. It is in good shape, but has a few things that need done with it to put it in tip-top condition. Check out the listing for details. Secondly, we have a Linksys Wireless Ethernet Bridge. I had bought this about a month ago to "borrow" Internet access from my neighbor. Unfortunately, things didn't go quite as planned, and now I don't have any use for it. It works fine though.

    Bid up with confidence!!

i am not indie at all!

How indie are you? test by ridethefader
Who are you trying to fool? Just because you own a couple of Weezer albums doesn't mean that you're uberindie. Indie people don't hear about cutting edge new bands from MTV. At least the ignorant don't know what they're missing...

This is the only picture of the Neon I have here at work. It is somewhere under that snow. I will post a better one later.

    Neon for Sale

I have a 1998 Dodge Neon that I'm putting up for sale. It has 106K miles on it and runs pretty well. There are a few problems with it that need to be fixed up.

If you are interested, email me. I'm going to put it on eBay this weekend, so if you want an early chance at it, let me know before then.

    Find Your Hotspot Here

I added a Wi-Fi Hotspot search to the Shanafelt Sector. It is powered by JiWire and lets you put in any address and it will find the nearest location to hook up to wireless access. Needless to say, there is nothing near my house. However, I was surprised to see that St. Francis University was listed.

    Props To RD's

I made it to RD's in Portage for the first time tonight. A good time was had by all, thanks to the folks from Drexel, Brian, & Jay. The bowling machine they have there is old-school and pretty awesome. I came in third out of six in the game.

I will beat Brian at it before the year is out :)
