Here we go Steelers, Here we Go!!

|

The Steelers had an absolutely kick-ass game today againist the Patriots. Everyone on NASIOC said the Steelers didn't stand a chance, but I successfully prognisticated last week that the Steelers would in fact come back with a win and that their real challenge was this coming week againist Philly. The Pats just haven't played anyone this season with a decent record (save maybe the Jets).

Congratulations Steelers, especially Big Ben & Plaxico!!

If I get one more phone call from either side about who to vote for, I'm going to disconnect my phone until Nov. 3rd.

Excellent Eminem video here. The animation and artistry is awesome and shows just how important Nov. 2nd is.

Fixed a couple of things

| | Comments (0)

Due to my brother's costant complaining, I've not only fixed the font in the Steeler's news feed, but also made it pop up in a new window.

I've also been deluged by a bunch of comment spam again. I thought that I had solved that problem when I introduced the "enter the number" system, but apparently not. It seems like the only entries that are getting hit are older ones, so they are probably hitting the entries that were pre-number system.

Google Me This

I've always been a huge fan of Google for all of my search engine needs, so when they recently announced their beta for Google Desktop Search, I went out right away and downloaded it.

After installation, the application indexed all of my local files on my computer, including my email. This process took a couple of hours to complete, but I just left my machine run overnight to complete it. Now, when I do a Google search, I get results back from my computer as well as from the Internet. Optionally, I can open up a "Google Desktop Web Search" web page, and it will search for whatever on my local computer only. The speed is amazing, it finds things with the speed we have come to expect with Google. The app is especially good for searching your email. I used to wait at least 1.5 minutes for Outlook to search my email for a simple word. The Google Desktop Search does the same thing in a wink of an eye. I highly recommend this software.

Here we go Steelers!

Steelers had a hell of a game againist the Cowboys today. Big Ben looks absolutely amazing for a rookie, he is the real deal. They have a bye next week and then go up againist the two toughest teams in the league, the Pats and the Eagles. The best thing about the Steelers victory today was that it was againist the hated Cowboys. There are a few teams I hate more than the Cowboys (namely the Ravens & the Browns), and it was great to see the Steelers get a victory againist them.

The only disappointing thing from today's game was to find out that Marzoni's no longer has its 2-for-1 deal for Pittsburgh Steak Sandwiches during games. Apparently, they weren't selling enough. Come on guys, bring it back!!

Oh, BTW, this is Ethan on one of his grandparent's tractors. I can't remember which one.

Steelers News

| | Comments (2)

Through the use of RSS-To-JavaScript, I've added Pittsburgh Steelers news to the Sector. The news feed should stay current with all of the latest news from the men in black. I don't like the way the font is different from the rest of the Sector's, but I'll try to figure that out shortly.

Rothlisberger is looking awesome this year, but the Steelers have a tough four weeks coming up. This stretch will prove if they are for real or not.

Upgrade

| | Comments (3)

I just upgraded versions of Moveable Type from 3.0D to 3.11. Upgrade was pretty easy & straightforward, just copied the new Moveable Type files and CGI scripts to web server and ran one script. I'm not quite sure what the benefits of the upgrade are yet, but I'll start researching that soon.

I did a quick search on Amazon for some Moveable Type books, but didn't find much. I know there is a lot more that I can do with this blog, but I just don't have the patience to go searching for it.

On-Line Photos

| | Comments (1)

I've been looking at a couple of on-line photo web sites lately, but I can't seem to find exactly what I want:

1, The ability to easily upload pictures.
2, The ability to not only share pictures with people, but also the ability for invited folks to be able to upload pictures to specified albums. For example, if I have a photo album of Ethan pictures, I would like my parents and parents-in-law to be able to upload any digital pictures that they may have of him as well. (Disclaimer: Teaching my parents how to upload pictures may be a box of worms that I don't want to get into, but it would be nice to have that option anyway).
3, Being able to purchase prints from the website.

The 2 main ones I've been looking at are Flickr.com and Snapfish.com. I've already got an extensive collection on Snapfish, but desired feature number 2 is not availiable and it's a pain to create new albums, move pictures, etc...

Finally, Some Content

| | Comments (1)

Since everyone is bitching that I haven't posted lately, here are some random items and thoughts I've collected over the past couple of weeks.

1, I built a new computer. It's an AMD 3200+ kickass machine. I bought it so I could play Sims2 and Madden 2005. Now I just have to figure out a way that it can generate some time for me to actually sit down and play them.

2, The drain in our bathroom has been plugged up for nearly a month. Every morning, I say to myself "When I get home from work, I'm going to fix the drain". But I never remember to do it.

3, The Steelers kicked Cleveland's orange ass this weekend. Further proof that the only good thing in Cleveland is the road sign that says 100 miles to Pittsburgh.

4, Penn State loss to Purdue, but looked good doing so. Their offense just looks bad and can't sustain anything.

5, Save 1.57% on your purchases from Amazon by using their new search engine, A9.com. A9 looks like a pretty interesting portal page and it's integrated with Google, so the search results are pretty good. I'm going to have to consciously (sp?) use it before going straight to Google before I make any final decisions.

6, I'm in the process of checking out Podcasting.

7, At work, I'm trying to get CERMUSA involved in Internet2's Megaconference.

8, Just to get the comments going - Kerry & Edwards have both kicked ass at the so-called-debates to get their campaigns kick-started. I'm glad that FactCheck.org was promoted here at the ShanafeltSector first before Cheney goofed up the name and redirected millions of viewers to an Anti-Bush web site.

9, ShanafeltSector.com is now the number 1 Shanafelt-related website according to Google. We did this by destroying our competitor, Shanafelt.com, through the use of poignant insite and theoretical rhetoric.
